The fender wall created the forebay immediately upstream of the turbine chamber intakes at the Lockport Powerhouse. The top of its arched openings, shown on September 19, 1906, were below the canal operating water level allowing water to pass and deflecting floating debris to the 48-foot dam and sector gate to be flushed downstream.
