In just a few years, the concrete walls near Lockport needed repair. The use of unsatisfactory materials and the freeze-thaw cycle caused the concrete to deteriorate. District crews performed repairs, as shown on July 11, 1911, until contracts were awarded for the same purpose. The water level in the canal had to be carefully controlled to protect the workers.
