June 22, 1908. The Eight-Track interim fixed truss bridge had a short, but critical life. Completed in 1901, it allowed the channel to be opened to navigation and the railroads to continue service while the design was prepared for the permanent movable bascule bridges. The interim fixed bridge consisted of four double-track through-truss spans. Dock wall construction is underway in the foreground in front of the District’s main electrical substation.
