Relive a Piece of Chicago Cubs History on April 29

On Saturday, April 29, from 10:00 am to 11:00 am, Charles N. Billington will present his book, Wrigley Field's Last World Series: The Wartime Chicago Cubs and the Pennant of 1945 at the Bartlett Senior Center. Billington will explain how 1945 was a turning point for the Cubs. In the first half of the twentieth century, few baseball teams were as good as Chicago, but in the second half, few teams were as bad. Billington not only analyzes the 1945 Cubs season and stats, but puts his findings into a greater cultural, social, and economic context and draws comparisons with current trends. His presentation includes memorabilia and photographs from the World War II era. Afterwards, Billington will be selling and signing copies of his book.
Billington is a gifted public speaker. The Library Administrators Council of Illinois (LACONI) included him on their “Best of the Best” list, a recognition of top library presenters.
